Timely Data Capture & Information Retrieval has been and continues to be the ongoing Organizational / IT challenge.  The focus is on the enterprise and specific departmental or individual's needs are low on the list.

Record length has grown from 80 column cards in long trays to a virtual infinity of immediate information.  Voice, Images, Video supplementing text.

When your data resides on the web and your device can link to the web for entry & display in real time there are simple solutions for complex problems.

The next generation of cell phones will have Java embedded in them.  They will compete with iphone and go further as they replace many PDA functions and take on scanning functions such as barcode and RF,

The open-source community sees a phone with java as a little computer that can stand-alone then sync with the web and the desktop.

Sun - Netbeans & JavaFM & IBM - Eclipse with re-engineering and code generations creating a class of open-source license free programs that will run the same on the web, the desktop or the phone.  The "Bundle" is back.

Updated thinking required since Oracle will now get Sun.

5/2/09 - A virtual team of non-technical strangers have worked part time over the last 60 days to create 2 businesses and 3 jobs.  The posted documents tell the stories. The team recruited itself by service request, email and inquiry through our host www.PublicComputerNetwork.com.  PCN referred them to Use Cases to prototype their application.  It is free, interesting &, if you make a niche, profitable. If you want to join the next team or for more information contact: Julius@PublicComputerNetwork.com

Example: Step around legacy systems to get a critical job done
Secure Enter & Display Medical Chart.

Least Cost of Ownership
Immediate Implementation

An 80% solution today & Constant Improvement instead of time-sucking make or buy decisions followed by more complexity than an ever changing system should have.

For Example: Distributing meds to patients should have a scan of the patient, the drug and the nurse id confirmed by a computer as matching.  This application saves lives and provides alerts to procedure shortcomings in real time.  Successful examples are few as hospitals think they have to wire their buildings and broaden their networks to perform this function.

With a cell phone that can reach the web and a capture and display of all the activities that make up the chart and allow the nurse to confirm the drug delivered was the one prescribed.  The medical team shares secure access and information just as they would do with a paper chart.

Example: Step around legacy systems to get a critical job done
Secure Enter & Display Medical Chart.

With a cell phone that can reach the web and capture Files, Images, Voice, Video, Scans and text entry along with drop down list and menu choices.

A general use case can be defined a prototype built and the use cases demonstrated.

Example: Any Transaction from any device
"My next phone will be my only computer and my data will live on the web in entry / display formats that I dictate."

3/2/09 - Our last promotion was aimed at starting a discussion about simple vs complex information systems.  We used a hospital example that was aimed at preventing drug administration errors.  Barcode scanning in the complex solution and a readable web tracking chart & the judgement of the RN in the simple case..
The simple charting case example brought leads from lawyers who want client charting to track hours and events.  More leads came from people who want to consolidate their email lists on the web.
Then finally some comment on the hospital system. We were told about a recent study that showed that barcoding was failing because: the system was often down and the nurses found ingenious workarounds to do things their way.  A night nurse was found with duplicates of all her patient's wristbands on her left arm so she could sit at her desk and scan the patient and the drug as required;  Then she could make the rounds and distribute the drugs.
She said; "Many of the drugs are IV and there was no reason to disturb the patient with a wristband scan."
